What Causes LASIK Complications?

LASIK complications often result from how the cornea is permanently reshaped during surgery. If too much tissue is removed or healing is uneven, it can lead to corneal irregularities and higher-order aberrations (HOAs), which distort visual quality and cause symptoms like glare, halos, starbursts, ghosting, and double vision.

Another contributing factor is that the LASIK procedure involves creating a flap, which severs corneal nerves. This disrupts the eye’s natural feedback loop for tear production and is a major cause of chronic dry eye after LASIK.
