Cataract Surgery at Azman Eye Care Specialists
At Azman Eye Care Specialists, we specialize in diagnosing, managing, and treating cataracts with advanced surgical techniques led by board-certified ophthalmologist Dr. Richard Adler. Cataract surgery not only restores clear vision but also enhances your quality of life by reducing dependence on glasses.
Understanding Cataracts
A cataract occurs when the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy, obstructing light from properly focusing on the retina. This progressive condition can cause blurry vision, glare, and difficulty with daily tasks like driving or reading. In healthy eyes, the lens remains clear, allowing light to pass freely. Cataracts typically develop gradually and are most common in individuals over 60.
Common Symptoms of Cataracts
- Blurry or cloudy vision
- Sensitivity to light or glare
- Difficulty seeing at night
- Faded or yellowed colors
- Frequent changes in eyeglass prescriptions
Causes of Cataracts
While cataracts are often age-related, other risk factors include:
- Diabetes
- Prolonged UV exposure
- Smoking
- Eye trauma or surgery
- Family history of cataracts
Diagnosing and Managing Cataracts
Cataracts are detected during a comprehensive eye exam, which includes tests to evaluate the clarity of your lens, your overall eye health, and the impact of the cataract on your vision.
Cataract Management Options
In the early stages, cataracts can be managed with:
- Prescription glasses or contact lenses to improve vision.
- Anti-glare coatings for glasses to reduce sensitivity to light.
However, as cataracts progress, surgery is the most effective solution for restoring vision.
EXCELLENT Based on 181 reviews K B2025-07-23Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Azman Eye Care is awesome! I highly recommend it. I went there for years, for my dry eye, fux dystrophy (sp), and when my eyes were damaged. The Azman brothers are awesome, very good at their jobs, they truly care, it is a spiritual environment, and doctors like this are not found often anymore. I started seeing Dr. Thomas Azman in 2005. I’ve seen his brother Irwin Azman also. Both great doctors! Thomas worked on my eyes at a greatly reduced price just because he wanted to. It’s their business and he can help who he wants, is what he told me. He discovered my dry eye issues and my fux dystrophy. He gave me the drops that are saving me from needing eye surgery. During COVID quarantine, in 2020, I got eye damage and that was the only office that would open for me, at first, despite not being open. There were a number of times where I needed to talk to Dr. Irwin Azman on the phone, when I was very stressed about my eye damage. He took the time talking with me that most other doctors wouldn’t. He would let me call him on his personal phone number whenever. He would have lengthy conversation s with me and walk me through my problems and stress. If he was in the middle of something, like picking up a prescription for his wife, he would call me right back to make sure I was okay. When I almost needed surgery, he asked me to let him find and hand picked the best surgeon possible, for the job. It was a guy in John Hopkins who was an a excellent choice. I ended up not needing surgery. Irwin even tried to save me hundreds of dollars by suggesting I do some of my tests with the other guy instead of him, so that my insurance could help more. Dr. Irwin Azman was clearly not in it for himself or money. I had him do it anyways though, because his opinion was one I highly valued. The only reason I don’t still go there is because they can no longer take my insurance. Otherwise, I would still go there. I always respect a practice that is openly spiritual! We shouldn’t underestimate the need to get God involved and the spiritual factor in medical issues. I highly recommend Azman Eye Care!!!!! Also, I should mention that when I was a patient here, I only lived near by for the first 2 years, but stayed a patient here from 2005-2020 despite it being an hour or longer drive away. That’s how worth it it was. Again, the only reason I stopped going there was because of insurance. Otherwise, I would still be there. Advanced Cataract Surgery at Azman Eye Care Specialists
Cataract surgery is a safe and effective procedure where the clouded lens is replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL).
Dr. Adler’s expertise ensures personalized care with a focus on excellent outcomes. Most patients experience significant vision improvement within a day, with full recovery in about one week.
Your Cataract Surgery Experience
Performed on an outpatient basis.
Typically completed in less than 30 minutes.
Each eye is treated separately
Intraocular Lens (IOL) Options
We offer a range of IOLs to suit your vision needs, including:
Traditional Lenses
Monofocal lenses that improve vision at one distance (near or far), often requiring glasses for other tasks.
Advanced Premium Lenses
Modern IOLs that reduce or eliminate the need for glasses by correcting multiple vision issues:
Multifocal Lenses: Ideal for clear vision at both near and far distances.
Extended Depth of Focus Lenses: Perfect for intermediate activities, such as computer use.
Toric Lenses: Specifically designed to correct astigmatism.
Dr. Adler will recommend the best lens option based on your lifestyle and eye health.
Understanding Presbyopia
Presbyopia is a natural part of the aging process that affects nearly everyone, typically starting around age 40. It occurs as the lens of the eye gradually loses its flexibility, making it difficult to focus on close objects. This condition often results in the need for reading glasses or bifocals, even for individuals who have never experienced vision problems before.
If you find yourself struggling to read small print on labels, menus, text messages, or books, it may be time to explore a vision solution. Beyond the frustration of difficulty seeing clearly up close, presbyopia can also cause headaches, eye strain, and visual fatigue.
How Is Presbyopia Diagnosed?
Presbyopia can be easily identified during a comprehensive eye exam, where your doctor evaluates your near vision and overall eye health. While presbyopia is not a disease and cannot be reversed, effective solutions are available to correct the issue and restore your ability to focus at all distances.
Refractive Lens Exchange for Presbyopia
For patients seeking a permanent solution to presbyopia, Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) offers an ideal option. During this outpatient procedure, the eye’s natural lens is replaced with a premium intraocular lens that provides clear vision for near, distance, or both. Unlike temporary solutions like reading glasses, RLE offers long-lasting results and eliminates the need for frequent adjustments or prescriptions.
Performed on one eye at a time with a brief recovery period in between, RLE is typically comfortable, and most patients report improved vision shortly after surgery. Additionally, since the natural lens is replaced, patients who undergo RLE will never develop cataracts in the future.
If presbyopia is affecting your daily life, Refractive Lens Exchange at Azman Eye Care Specialists could be the solution you’ve been looking for. Schedule a consultation today to learn more!
